14 Nov Our Latest Projects
Here at Aphex Homes, we have been very busy lately in the Horndean area, but we have taken some time out to write up about a recent project in the area. We have converted an old garage into an integrated open-plan kitchen and family room. The team also worked on a lounge refurbishment project and installed bi-fold doors at the same property.
GARAGE CONVERSION TO OPEN-PLAN KITCHEN/FAMILY ROOM
THE BRIEF
The customer contacted Aphex Homes as they wished to convert their garage into an open-plan kitchen and family room and remove their existing kitchen. The work involved removing the walls, old ceilings and part of the existing roof to create the new open-plan room. New walls would have to be erected as well as a new kitchen design and installation.
WHAT WE PROVIDED
To convert the garage and knock through to the existing building to form part of the 40 Sq m kitchen reception area, we needed to build up a new insulated suspended floor to trim level with the existing building. The ceiling height had to be raised, so our team raised the joints then trimmed them so that they were level. We then fitted two Velux sun tunnels into the pitched roof which reflects daylight through to pods in the new ceiling lining.

LOUNGE REFURBISHMENT AND BI-FOLD DOORS FITTING
THE BRIEF
After seeing our good work on our website, the client contacted us requesting an extensive refurbishment of their lounge including fitting of new bi-fold doors. The work would require removal of the walls, windows and doors. These would be replaced with steel beams above, and new foundations and footings underneath our new 6 leaf bi-fold doors.
WHAT WE DELIVERED
Lounge RefurbishmentThe lounge wall overlooked the garden and consisted of a large brick bay window and an internal porch. We had to cut these out completely from the property and then rebuild them around 3 steel beams. This was done to facilitate the fitting of 5m wide oak folding doors. We reinstated the high ceilings with a curved plaster detail then laid an engineered wood floor. The room was then professionally painted.
We added the wow factor to this room by cladding the wall opposite with quartz tiles. This made the wood burning stove and chimney breast a focus of attention.
TESTIMONIAL
Throughout Simon, John and team kept me informed and consulted on every step. The finished result is everything we wanted. Simon was always willing to take on design ideas and also give input, and we are very happy with the result. Would use Aphex Homes without hesitation for future work.
